Led by&nbsp;<strong>Nicosia Turkish Municipality<\/strong>, in collaboration with&nbsp;<strong>European University of Lefke<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>CyTech Software Group<\/strong>, the \u201cVirtual Nicosia Exhibition\u201d has officially opened in the&nbsp;<strong>metaverse<\/strong>, marking a new era for the island\u2019s cultural promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Hosted on the \u201cDigital Cyprus Space\u201d platform, the exhibition allows visitors to explore Nicosia\u2019s historic and cultural landmarks in stunning 3D. Through a virtual reality headset or computer screen, users can wander through iconic locations such as&nbsp;<strong>B\u00fcy\u00fck Han<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Selimiye Mosque<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Arasta Streets<\/strong>, experiencing the city\u2019s rich atmosphere from anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The online launch event took place on&nbsp;<strong>November 8, 2025<\/strong>, attracting hundreds of participants from Northern Cyprus and abroad. During his speech, the&nbsp;<strong>Mayor of Nicosia<\/strong>&nbsp;emphasized the cultural importance of the project, stating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis initiative is not just a technological innovation it is the preservation of Cypriot culture in the digital age.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Developed over eight months, the project involved students from the European University of Lefke\u2019s New Media Department, who recreated Nicosia\u2019s key sites using advanced 3D scanning technology. The result is an immersive virtual environment that mirrors the real city, allowing for an interactive and educational experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The project aims to introduce Northern Cyprus\u2019s cultural and historical heritage to a global audience. Future plans include expanding the metaverse experience to include&nbsp;<strong>Kyrenia<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Famagusta<\/strong>, transforming the entire island into a virtual cultural destination.Experts suggest that such digital projects not only help preserve heritage but also strengthen the island\u2019s tourism and digital economy.
